On Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1:40 in the morning, Clearwater RCMP responded to an alarm activation at a local tire shop.

Upon arrival at the location police found a tire for a heavy machine lying on top of what was left of the large garage bay door.

It was later determined the tire had been strapped down on the back of a truck inside the shop. The tire had a catastrophic failure along the sidewall. The resulting release of the pressurized air inside the tire caused it to lift and fly through the garage bay door.

The shockwave also caused havoc within the shop, knocking ceiling tiles down, and even warping a rear door.

Luckily, due to the time of day, there were no persons or employees around and no one was hurt.

T-bone collision

On Friday, Feb. 10 at 10:45 a.m., Clearwater RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a car and a one-ton pickup in Blue River.

The car had been crossing the highway when the southbound truck collided with the car's passenger side, pushing the car into the snowbank on the corner of the intersection.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injury and was transported by ambulance to Clearwater.

The driver of the car suffered more significant, but non-life-threatening injuries had to be assisted out of the vehicle due to damage and being jammed into the rather large snowbank.

Once removed from the car, the driver was then transported by air ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Terrible driving

Two separate businesses in Clearwater sustained damages during the past week as a result of tractor-trailer drivers who were not paying enough attention.

In one of the incidents the tractor-trailer did not stop after causing the damage. However, commercial vehicle inspectors were able to be check on the vehicle and issued multiple violation tickets and other regulation-based sanctions.
