The 6th Annual Day of Sucwentwecw (Acknowledging one Another) in School District No. 73 took place April 5, an initiative that recognizes and celebrates the Secwepemc People and other Aboriginal People residing within the Secwepemc Territory.

At Raft River students took in some storytelling, crafting, games and language lessons.

“We wrapped up the learning with a lunchtime gathering to share food and company,” said principal Lori Bradstock.

“We were joined by Charli Fortier, Angie Rainer, and Jules Phillip from the Simpcw First Nation. Rose Macarthur also came and did storytelling with our younger students.”

Cindy Wilgosh, with donations from Kalen and Amanda Jones at the Gateway Grill, lined up a crew of helpers to serve lunch to those in attendance.

“We are so grateful to all of our guests and helpers who helped make this day a successful and engaging opportunity,” Bradstock said.
