Police seize $55,000 near Barriere

Just after midnight on Friday, Jan. 14, a member of Southeast District Traffic Services seized an estimated $55,000 after a vehicle stop on Highway 5 near Barriere, B.C.

Just after midnight on Friday, Jan. 14, a member of Southeast District Traffic Services seized an estimated $55,000 after a vehicle stop on Highway 5 near Barriere, B.C.

The vehicle was being driven in a manner that the officer felt the driver could be impaired. During the interaction with the driver he noted a number of indicators that lead him into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. A police service specialty narcotic dog was deployed on the vehicle and the dog provided a positive indication for drugs.

The subjects were arrested and the vehicle was searched incidental to arrest. Approximately $55,000 in Canadian currency was located. The male provided a false name to police and he faces charges of proceeds of crime, obstruction and impersonation. A 46-year old Saskatchewan male is being held for court on Monday. A 35-year old Saskatchewan female is being charged with proceeds of crime and obstruction and has been released on a $10,000 bail and conditions.
