Clearwater RCMP responded to 51 calls for service this past week.
On Sept 10, 2022 at 3:57 p.m. a store clerk called from a local department store on Young Road, Clearwater to report a suspected theft in progress after observing two males and one female remove a knife from a package and put it in her bag.
Const. Meyer arrived on scene first, by which time both males returned to their vehicle which was registered to a Vavenby female who was not present. The female was stopped prior to exiting the store and voluntarily returned a pair of socks, gloves and a hunting knife still in its package.
All three were determined to be from out-of-town. Subsequent investigation revealed an empty fillet knife box in the store. One of the males, eventually under non-jeopardy circumstances retrieved the knife which was concealed in the car. It was returned undamaged. The trio agreed to leave town in exchange for discretion exercised.
The registered owner of the vehicle was advised of the incident, including that stolen property was recovered from her car. She claims she hired one of the males to help her move back here from Quesnel and he showed up with the other male and female without her knowledge. She assured police her vehicle would not be involved in any further nefarious activity. The complainant was given the police file number and investigator’s names for insurance purposes.
On Sept. 11, 2022 at 4:02 a.m. TMX Security called Clearwater RCMP to advise of a black pickup hauling a trailer had pulled into a couple TMX right of ways between Blue River and Avola and a male walked around a piece of equipment. No confirmed theft or property damage. The truck was stopped by Const. Tobin at Raft River and Highway 5, with a 49-year-old Kelowna male driving, and 39-year-old Edmonton woman in the passenger seat.
The truck had been freshly painted black in Jasper, Alberta, had a tidy tank fuel pump set to draw fuel via electric pump, 30’ of hose and was connected to a battery ready to work. An empty barrel was in the truck box, with two full barrels in the trailer. The vehicle was searched and a Honda 2000 generator in the box was checked with negative results.
A roadside inspection of the vehicle revealed many deficiencies to warrant the issuance of an inspection order which was issued to the driver. The male driver also had an unendorsed warrant out of Kelowna which he was arrested and held for a bail hearing at the Clearwater detachment. The female carried on out of town and was given the inspection order. Photographs of truck/occupants obtained. TMX Security was present, aware of outcome and confirmed up to this point no mischief or theft. Investigation is ongoing.
