Police charge bus driver with sexual exploitation

Clearwater RCMP confirmed on Wednesday that a local school bus driver has been charged with sexual exploitation

Clearwater RCMP confirmed on Wednesday that a local school bus driver has been charged with sexual exploitation under Section 153 of the Criminal Code. The investigation began in January after police received a complaint from a student of inappropriate action on the part of the driver.

Due to a publication ban police are not able to release the name or details of the offence. The subject will appear in court in May.

According to Martin's Annual Criminal Code, 2003, Police Edition, sexual exploitation requires that a person be in a position of trust or authority towards a young person (between the ages of 14 and 17 inclusive) or a person with whom the young person is in a relationship of dependency. It occurs when the person touches the young person with sexual purpose or invites, counsels or incites the young person to touch the person with sexual purpose. It carries a maximum sentence of five years.
