District of Clearwater chief administrative officer Leslie Groulx swears in the members of Clearwater’s junior council during a town council meeting held Nov. 7.

Pictured are (l-r) Grayson Panko, Jenny Panko, Saaya Miyata, Bailey Stokes, Savannah Dee, Emily Giesbrecht and Groulx. The junior council is made up of the members of the students council at Clearwater Secondary School.

Former town councillor Candus Graffunder originated the idea, which appears to have been a first for British Columbia. It serves as a communication bridge between the municipality and local young people. Other municipalities across the province have since adopted their own junior councils.
