1 dead after head-on collision on Hwy 5 south of Little Fort

The driver of the pickup was injured and the passenger did not survive

Highway 5 was closed south of Little Fort for over 24 hours after a semi-trailer and a pickup truck collided near Darfield.

Barriere RCMP responded to the head-on collision in the 8000-block of Highway 5, between Thuya Creek and Allen-Meeker Roads around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday (June 15) night.

Blackpool Fire Rescue also attended to the scene, along with BC Ambulance services out of Barriere.

“The collision remains under investigation by Barriere detachment to determine the leading cause of the crash,” said Cpl. Alex Berube in a press release Thursday morning.

The driver of the pickup truck was injured, but the passenger did not survive.

Highway 5 was re-opened to traffic around 9:30 a.m. Thursday (June 16) morning.

Cpl. Berube said there is no other information available at this time.
