UPDATE: RCMP investigate milk recalls in B.C. due to “extraneous material”

Island Farms, Lucerne and Natrel milk recalled

The RCMP has launched an investigation into the “extraneous” materials found in Agropur Cooperative milk products.

According to Cpl. Tammy Douglas, the RCMP are aware of a number of complaints from around Vancouver Island over the course of the last few weeks.

The recalled food products are certain Island Farms, Lucerne and Natrel milk products in plastic jugs. They are being recalled by Agropur Cooperative due to what the Canadian Food Inspection agency is calling “the potential presence of harmful extraneous material.”

The RCMP investigation remains in its early stages, Douglas said.

“It is not clear at this time whether the potential presence of harmful extraneous material, in products only sold and distributed in BC, is accidental or criminal,” said Douglas. “Our coordination efforts are reviewing the complaints and we will continue to work with company and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.”
