“It’s like winning a lottery for her. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Clearwater Credit Union Branch manager Gina Walchuk.

Walchuk was speaking of Leticia Ahiabu, a lady Manageress from Ghana, Africa who will be joining the Clearwater Branch on May 15 for three days.

Interior Savings participate in a Canadian Cooperative Association’s Women’s Mentorship Program.  Each year the program provides a professional development opportunity to women leaders of financial co-operatives in developing countries and builds a body of knowledge and experience related to the specific needs of women in financial co-operatives

Heidi Hyokki, the official host for this program has travelled to Africa twice as part of the CCA Mentorship Program and knows first-hand how the experience can change the lives of an individual and an entire community.

“I am excited that Interior Savings has been chosen to participate in this incredible program. This is a month long project where women from credit unions in Africa come to Canada to learn the Canadian credit union system and to use the skills they acquire here to help grow their credit unions back home,” says Hyokki.

“We are honoured to be part of such a life changing experience for these women. This is a unique opportunity for them to develop leadership skills and learn general lending practices.  Interior Savings has worked with CCA in the past providing managerial resources by sending employees to Africa so we recognize the value and learning opportunity this program provides,” says Kathy Conway, President and CEO of Interior Savings.

Interior Savings will be hosting  Ahiabu from May 10th to May 20th.  During this time she will be working at the Clearwater Branch and at the Head Office of Interior Savings in Kelowna gaining firsthand experience and training from the staff.
