Interior Savings donates close to $1,000 to local food bank

A total of $993 will be presented to Clearwater and District Food Bank as a result of Interior Savings Credit Union

A total of $993 will be presented to Clearwater and District Food Bank as a result of Interior Savings Credit Union’s Spread the Joy promotion.

“All the staff at the Clearwater branch is committed to supporting our local food bank, particularly during the holiday season,” said Gina Walchuk, Interior Savings’ Clearwater branch manager.

Interior Savings pledged $50 to a local food bank for every member who signed up for online banking, with an additional $0.25 donated for every online bill payment made in the month of December. During the campaign, the Credit Union saw an influx of online activity due in part to the employees and members who went online to lend their support.

“Part of our mission statement is to share the success of our Credit Union with our communities” said Gene Creelman, VP marketing and communications at Interior Savings. “This is one cause that our members, employees and communities feel very strongly about.”

This past December the Interior Savings’ Spread the Joy campaign met its goal of raising over $30,000 for local food banks in their service area, with the help of their members and employees.

Donations will be presented to food banks in each of Interior Savings’ 14 communities this month - a time of year when donations to these organizations typically drop off dramatically.

In a recent survey conducted by Interior Savings, respondents named food banks as one of the most deserving causes for support. Likewise, when the Credit Union invited staff to suggest a benefiting charity for this campaign, all 21 branches recommended food banks.

In 2011, Interior Savings’ employees raised over $60,000 collectively for the community. That is in addition to the annual community investment made corporately through sponsorships, bursaries and donations, which in 2011, was over $600,000.

With assets exceeding $2 billion, Interior Savings Credit Union is the largest credit union based in the Interior of B.C. Through its 21 branches, 15 insurance offices, and two Commercial Services Centers, the credit union offers personal and commercial banking and a full range of insurance and wealth management services to members in 14 communities.
