Ice climbers return to Helmcken Falls

Two Europeans to attempt to climb to the top of Helmcken Falls today (Monday, Feb.6)

Andrew Nelson from Helmcken Falls Lodge advises the Times that ice climbers are back climbing the frozen spray at Helmcken Falls.

"Tim Emmett from the U.K. and Klem Preml from Slovenia are attempting to climb from the bottom to the top today," he said on Monday, Feb. 6. "They have been working on this climb for nearly 12 days."

Emmett, along with Canmore residents Will Gadd and E.J. Plimley, pioneered ice climbing on the frozen spray behind the waterfall last year. They described the experience as the most difficult ice climbing in the world.

Gadd was here with Emmett at the end of January but left early February for other ice climbing commitments.
