Longtime School District 73 trustee Denise Harper was elected by acclamation to be school board chair during the board's inaugural meeting on Dec. 5.
Kathleen Karpuk beat out Gerald Watson to be vice-chair.
Upper North Thompson trustee John Harwood was not present for the inaugural meeting as he was in Clearwater for the first meeting of the new District of Clearwater council. The Clearwater mayor instead was sworn in earlier in the day.
Harwood has been assigned four committee appointments by the new chair: human resources, education, Kamloops Foundation and professional development.
The local trustee noted that School District 73 no longer handles its own investments but instead channels them through a dedicated fund at the foundation.
