Grant applications sought by United Way

United Way is now accepting applications for its North Thompson Community Fund and its Youth Initiative Grants

United Way is now accepting applications for its North Thompson Community Fund and its Youth Initiative Grants, according to Danalee Baker, director of community impact for the Thompson-Nicola-Caribou.

Deadline for both programs is Jan. 30 at4 p.m.

The purpose of the Community Fund is to strengthen the network of services and capacity of non-profits to achieve meaningful, long-term improvements in quality of life in the community by addressing not just the symptoms of problems but also the root causes.

The United Way's community investment process is open to receive applications from non-profits with charitable status.

Community Fund applications must align with one of three focus areas: From Poverty to Possibility, All That Kids Can Be, and Strong Communities.

Youth Initiative grants were created to support projects developed by youth for youth (25 years and younger) within the Thompson-Nicola-Caribou region.

Youth Initiative Grant applications must:

• Be written by a youth or group of youth (age 25 or under).

• Support youth engagement within the applicant’s community.

• Be clearly defined, realistic, sustainable, and cost-efficient.

• Be completed by the end of the 2015 year.

• Request funds for $1,500 or less.

Youth Initiative grant cheques can be made out only to organizations that have a registered charitable number. However, applicants can partner with an organization.
