Mayor Merlin Blackwell receives a poppy from Clearwater-Vavenby Legion Branch 259 representative, Harry James, on Oct.16. Each year poppies are given first to the governor-general of Canada, then to the provincial lieutenant-governors, to municipal leaders, and finally to the general public. Poppies are available to the public on Oct. 25.
