A dry lightning storm that went through in the middle of Friday afternoon resulted in a series of fires in the North Thompson Valley, some of them quite large.

As of Friday evening, two large fires could be seen from Little Fort. One was located to the west on top of the ridge. The second, which was more of a fire complex rather than a single fire, was to the northeast.

The main centre of the second fire appeared to be south of Joseph Creek (which drains Dunn Lake) However, at least one spot fire was on the north side of the creek being driven north by strong winds.

According to fire information officer Tracy Wynnyk of the Kamloops Fire Centre, as of early Friday evening the situation was being assessed but there appeared to be at least eight fires burning in the area.

There were also two fires reportedd near the north end of Adams Lake, she said.
