An excavator rests above Second Canyon on Thursday morning after clearing out the culvert under the road to Wells Gray Park north of Clearwater.
Fearing the crossing might wash out, Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued an evacuation alert for Upper Clearwater on Tuesday evening. It was rescinded on Wednesday morning.
The road is the only route into the are area. Similar culvert-and-fill crossings along the road at First and Third Canyons, plus at Spahats Creek, have washed out in previous years. The one at Second Canyon is the only major culvert-and-fill left along the road.
