East Blackpool residents concerned about signage

Wells Gray Country services coordinator will speak with District of Clearwater about having a Dunn Lake Road sign posted

An outdoor community meeting held Tuesday evening, May 24, in East Blackpool covered much the same ground as ones held the week before in Upper Clearwater and Birch Island, according to Carol Schaffer, Thompson-Nicola Regional District director for Wells Gray Country (Area A).

A total of eight area residents attended.

Hilary Barnett, area manager for roads with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, spoke about her job position, what her duties are and improvements planned for the Highway 5 corridor. Residents queried her on a number of issues and asked for brushing, signage and some road repairs to make Dunn Lake Road more safe.

Wells Gray Country services coordinator Sherri Madden said she will speak with District of Clearwater about having a Dunn Lake Road sign being posted at the bottom of the road, close to intersection by the bridge.

Director Schaffer talked about the Wells Gray Geopark initiative and its potential economic benefits. The initiative is still in planning stages, she said.

The federal government's decision on the proposed expansion of Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline is expected in December. The National Energy Board has given conditional approval, Schaffer reported.

The TNRD director said that Telus will not expand its services unless there is a business case to go into new areas.
