Driver walks away from Highway 24 runaway lane crash

The semi was carrying a load of crushed, scrap vehicles

A driver had to make a quick decision on June 8 to use the runaway lane on Highway 24 when the brakes on his commercial vehicle failed. The semi rolled over and caught fire which resulted in a wildfire in the nearby forest that Little Fort and Blackpool fire teams quickly extinguished. The semi was carrying a load of crushed, scrap vehicles and RCMP and CVSE will be investigating the incident. Police said the driver walked away without injury.
