The District of Clearwater will not be “implementing mandates of any kind for staff, volunteers or suppliers,” with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement released Thursday (Feb. 10), which noted the decision will remain until otherwise advised.

“We hear you; we want to see an end to COVID-19 as well,” the statement reads. “There is no rule book for the response to this pandemic and everyone is doing the best they can.”

As an incorporated municipality, the DOC must follow all public health orders. Over the course of the last couple years, this has been done through implementing COVID safety plans and temporary changes to levels of service, among other steps. The District reminds residents that, as a municipality, it is “not responsible for, does not influence and is not consulted with respect to provincial health orders or federal mandates.”

In the statement, DOC is asks the community to use kindness and respect, and to be supportive, regardless of personal choice.

“We love where we live and the awesome people that live here with us,” the statement reads. “Let’s stick this out together.”

The District noted it will no longer provide further comment on topics related to the ongoing pandemic, as it is “beyond the scope of authority.”

Furthermore, correspondence to the DOC that is intended for mayor and/or council are triaged through DOC staff. Those who wish to send a message can do so here: http://www.districtofclearwater.com/contact-us/
