District of Clearwater and TNRD release staff salaries and expenses

Mayor and council, as well as TNRD directors renumeration released

During the June 21 regular council meeting, District of Clearwater released the renumeration and expenses paid to mayor and council.

Top position on town council during the period of Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2021, was Mayor Merlin Blackwell. He collected $21,880 in renumeration, plus another $1,480 in expenses.

All other council members were paid a renumeration of $11,745, except for Councillors Lucy Taylor and Lynne Frizzle, who were each paid a renumeration of $10,995. Expenses ranged from $1,375 for Coun. Shelley Sim to $29.79 for Coun. Lyle Mackenzie.

Total renumeration for the elected officials was $90,854, plus another $4,597 in expenses.

Among the staff, chief administrative officer Leslie Groulx took home the most pay, at $136,652. She also collected $1,957 in expenses.

Next in line was director of finance Roxanne Shepherd, who received $104,200 in renumeration and $4,122 in expenses.

Close behind was recreation facilities manager Roger Mayer. His renumeration was $94,167 and his expenses were $3,158.

Public works utility operator Ken Green took home $82,959 in renumeration while his expenses were $2,186.

Total renumeration for all employees, including those making $75,000 or less, was $1.3 million. Total expenses for staff was $15,500.

TNRD pay and expenses report

Over at the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, Mayor Merlin Blackwell collected $17,348 for acting as Clearwater’s representative. The amount TNRD directors get paid depends on how far they must travel, among other factors. Blackwell also collected $1,589 in expenses.

Carol Schaffer, TNRD director for Area A (Wells Gray Country), was paid $33,037 for her services, plus received another $7,254 in expenses.

The director for Area B (Thompson Headwaters), Stephen Quinn, collected $34,443 in renumeration. His expenses last year were $9,080.

Total renumeration paid to the TNRD board of directors was $611,612, plus another $73,395 in expenses.

The most highly paid staff member at the TNRD was chief administrative officer Scott Hildebrand. His renumeration was $211,463, plus he was reimbursed for another $1,988 in expenses and $44,828 in emergency response renumeration.

Sherri-Lyn Madden, the services coordinator for Areas A and B,brought home $96,018 in renumeration, plus another $4,091 in expenses and $12,946 in emergency response renumeration.

Total employee renumeration at the TNRD was $10.1 million, plus another $109,099 in expenses.
