District hosts Canada Day celebrations at Dutch Lake

A beach barbecue was part of the fun

The District of Clearwater mayor, councillors, staff and volunteers served up a beach barbecue as part of the annual Canada Day celebrations at Dutch Lake Beach park on July 1. Many families came out to enjoy the day at the beach during the Canada Day festivities which included refreshments and delicious barbecued hot dogs and burgers supplied for the district, water sports along with paddle boards provided by Wells Gray Outfitters, games, arts and crafts, Indigenous games, face painting, music and time to relax with family and friends. 

In the distance Raft Peak showed up from beneath the billowing clouds and bright blue sky as the day's fun on the popular lakeside park continued.

Some visitors to Wells Gray Country celebrated the day venturing into famous Wells Gray Park to visit the spectacular falls with the Helmcken Falls trail head access for regular vehicles now welcoming everyone back as of June 26. Restrictions on tour buses will continue until July 26 when the newly constructed and fully accessible viewing platform and parking lot improvements will be completed. 

As the aprons the district barbecue gang wore said, 'Love Where You Live' encouraging those who live, work and play in Clearwater along with guests to the area to enjoy all the valley has to offer in the beauty of Wells Gray Park full of wilderness, wildlife and waterfalls.
