Steven Quinn, Thompson-Nicola Regional District director for Electoral Area B, announced he will not be seeking re-election this fall.

It’s a worthwhile service and that’s what’s kept him going, he added, but there are other things he’d like to scratch off his bucket list.

While stressful, Quinn said he was glad they had some influence putting the regional district back on track, though there are still policies to implement. He’s also pleased that the board has continued to improve the water systems throughout the region. But, the COVID-19 pandemic made it harder for him to accomplish certain goals, such as focusing on First Nations relationships. And he continues to feel frustration regarding the Tiny House Warriors occupation near the Trans Mountain camp in Blue River.

The TNRD board looks after over 100 services. He said directors and staff are looking into putting together a pamphlet for those who consider running to provide information about what to expect once elected. Folks sometimes run one issue, said Quinn, but it can come as a shock when they realize just how vast the district’s services are.

Regardless, he encourages anyone interested to check it out.

“I don’t want to see the area unrepresented,” Quinn told the Times. “I encourage anyone interested, start digging. Go for it.”

Voters in each of the TNRD’s 10 electoral areas will cast their votes on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, and will elect one person to the position of director for a four-year term, ending October 2026. If only one person is vying for the seat in any electoral area, that person will be acclaimed to the position.

For more information about voting eligibility and where to vote visit the TNRD website.

For those who wish to run, more information can be found here, important dates here, and nomination packages will be available for download through the TNRD website once they are made available.
