Cram the Cruiser RCMP food bank event delivers big time

The Cram the Cruiser event coordinated by the Clearwater RCMP and Victim Services was a huge success benefiting the local food bank and kids.

The annual Cram the Cruiser on Saturday, Dec. 7 attracted a constant flow of donations in the Buy-Low Foods parking lot with RCMP and Victim Services coordinating the event from noon to 3:00 p.m.

Santa himself and the RCMP Safety Bear welcomed families throughout the day for photos by Indigo Thyme Imagery. Buy-Low Foods served up some delicious hot chocolate and cookies as the cruiser became crammed full of donations of food for the Clearwater and District Food Bank, along with new unwrapped toys for local kids and youth in the community.

Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander for the Clearwater RCMP said, “The community really came together to extend their generosity even despite the challenging economy. It was very encouraging to see! At the end of the event, we were able to deliver 610 pounds of food and $1,274.00 to our local food bank team in Clearwater.”

The Clearwater and District Food Bank president, Margot Venema, was thrilled with the day of community fundraising on Saturday.

“We certainly want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the Cram the Cruiser such a success once again to benefit so many in our area that rely on the food bank," she said. "We’d like to thank the sponsors which include the Clearwater RCMP, Clearwater Victim Services, Buy-Low Foods, Indigo Thyme Imagery and of course Santa and the RCMP Safety Bear as well as everyone who came out to donate food, toys and cash. Such a heartwarming day!”
