March 22

At about 6:24 a.m., Const. Klassen observed a dark truck travelling west on Highway 5 in Blackpool with the driver tail light out. He turned around and stopped the vehicle, a blue GMC Sierra with BC licence plates. The registered owner was a 43-year-old female from Cawston, B.C. The driver was a 21-year-old male, also from Cawston.

The photo on the BC driver’s licence that the driver produced matched the male in the drivers seat. A BC driver’s licence check conducted by Const. Klassen indicated that he was prohibited from driving under Section 93 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and that he was to be charged under Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act if he was found driving.

The male driver was arrested on scene and will be charged with one count of driving while prohibited, contrary to Section 95 of the Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was immediately impounded for which he was served a vehicle impound form as well as an appearance notice with a court date of March 22.

March 3

At 10:04 a.m., a 23-year-old male security guard for Trans Mountain Pipeline contacted the Clearwater RCMP to report a fuel theft at Road 108, located off the Little Hells Gate Road, near Avola.

Approximately 250 to 300 litres was stolen out of two different pieces of heavy equipment that are owned by a logging company. This theft occurred between March 1 at 4:30 p.m. and March 2 at 8:30 a.m. The equipment was fuelled up at the end of shift on the first. Const. Klassen spoke to security to follow up on any potential leads or evidence located.

There was also a light tower trailer that was damaged at a different site near Valemount on the same night. Investigation is ongoing.

March 4

A 64-year-old local man called police advising that his son is having difficulty with a 35-year-old female friend from Pickering, Ont., who was quite intoxicated and causing problems. The complainant was concerned things could escalate.

Cpl. McGeorge attended and spoke to the son who advised that he met this female last May when they started dating. He brought her back to his parent’s house where he stays for the winter. He resides in a wall tent outside and his female friend often stays in the guest room.

That day, she became very intoxicated, rambling nonsensically, and came out to his tent refusing to leave while trying to argue. She then began throwing plastic bags on the wood stove, which he felt would catch on fire.

Cpl. McGeorge spoke to the woman who was grossly intoxicated, and said she wasn’t safe at the house but couldn’t provide any reason and was making little sense. It was clear that she could not be left at the residence or she would likely assault someone or damage the home substantially. She had nowhere to go and no money.

She was advised that she was under arrest, and kicked and punched Cpl. McGeorge, who was able to gain control of her after a brief struggle. She was provided her Charter rights and warning, and transported to cells where she was lodged until sober. Once sober she was escorted back to the residence to retrieve personal belongings and then escorted from the property.

Clearwater RCMP responded to 39 calls for service this past week.
