Clearwater RCMP responded to 24 calls for service this past week including a single vehicle incident near Avola and an annoyed buck hit by an Alberta pickup.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7:54 a.m a Blackpool woman called the Clearwater RCMP to report a single vehicle incident on Highway 5, 10 kilometres south of Avola, B.C. Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander for the Clearwater RCMP said the woman was driving her B.C. registered blue 2022 Subaru Impreza, northbound, heading to Valemount, B.C., while following a plow truck that was sanding the icy roads.
"The plow truck pulled over and the woman lost control of her vehicle, sliding into the south bound ditch. The vehicle ended up on its side and the woman was able to climb out uninjured.”
Simpson reports that Const. Meyer contacted the nearest auto towing company who’d already had a different tow lined up and requested another tow company be used. Const. Meyer contacted another tow company providing the name of the woman, her number and vehicle location. They confirmed they would arrange to have her vehicle towed. Damage to the vehicle was under $10,000. The woman arranged her own ride back to Clearwater. Motor vehicle checks attached to the file.
Simpson also reports that on Nov. 22 at 12:41 a.m. a Thorsby, Alta. man called the RCMP to report a collision with a deer on Highway 5 near John Foster Place in Clearwater.
“The man was travelling southbound in his Alberta registered black 1999 Ford F-350, when a buck ran out, and hit the front of his truck. The buck rolled twice, got up and looked at the man in a "pissed off" manner then hobbled off into the bush,” said Simpson, adding "the man’s truck ran but was leaking fluid so he limped it back to the Wells Gray Hotel where he would spend the night.”
Damage to the truck was under $10,000. Police did not attend the scene. The police file number was provided to the man for insurance purposes. He advised that he would likely rent a U-Haul in the morning to get back to Alberta.
On Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3:21 a.m., Const. Van Woudenberg was advised of a disturbance in the 800 block of Old North Thompson Highway.
“A Blackpool man called stating his upstairs neighbours were screaming and slamming doors," Simpson said. "Const. Van Woudenberg is familiar with the address and knew who the upstairs tenants were. The complainant stated that there have been ongoing issues with them making noise at all hours of the night and wanted them spoken to. Const. Van Woudenberg attended and spoke to the upstairs tenants. Both smelled strongly of liquor and cannabis. The female tenant stated she had some kind of family matter going on in Ontario and therefore was loud while on Facetime with them, but they both stated they would keep it down now.” \
The complainant was advised to contact land lady in the morning regarding the incident.
