Clearwater Curiosity Thrift Shoppe makes generous donation to food bank

With winter coming on, it is a challenging time for the Clearwater and District Food Bank

Once again, with winter on the way, the members of the Clearwater Curiosity Thrift Shoppe (CCTS) have stepped forward with a generous donation to the Clearwater and District Food Bank, presenting the organization with a cheque for $25,000 on Oct. 3.

"The food bank is 100 per cent volunteer-operated and we are always so grateful to the volunteers from the Curiosity Thrift Shoppe and also to the public for supporting sales and donations to the shoppe and the food bank," said food bank treasurer and CCTS director Linda Selbee.

"Due to the continued support from the local residents and businesses we are able to continue our monthly hampers. With the cost of food rising we are able to help individuals and families in our area, and we just couldn't achieve this without our community partners. All of this money will go towards the hampers and providing nourishing food for community members."

Selbee also praised the hard work and organizational skills of thrift shop volunteers Lori Redman and Joanne Ebert. "[They] are the ones who keep us volunteers doing what needs to be done to keep the store up-to-date, neat and clean. Great ladies to work with!"

The organization is reliant on donations and funding. Selby added that December through March can be "challenging months" with increasing fuel, living and food expenses at an all-time high. She wants people to know that all monies raised in the Clearwater Curiosity Thrift Shoppe continually go back into the community via the food bank hamper program or towards the hospital.

"Everything earned in the thrift shoppe, every bit, goes to support our food bank program and hospital throughout the year. We have such wonderful volunteers who work with dedication to keep things running smoothly. We couldn't do this so successfully without our amazing team of volunteers in both organizations!"
