Shelley Sim

I love living rural. I love the kindness of the community, the outdoor recreation that is often due to the efforts of volunteers. I love that my kids are safe and if I leave my wallet at the grocery store, I will likely get it back. I love the values that come with a small town and hope that no matter how we grow, we are mindful of our roots and diligent of the legacy we leave behind.

My husband and I have lived here for 18 years.  We have three kids - two at CSS and our youngest is at Raft. For 12 years, I have been the principal owner/operator of Original Holidays, an incorporated company that organizes Canadian holidays for the European traveler.

Currently, I am vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the CSS PAC, member of the Raft River PAC, secretary of Clearwater Ski Club and last March, I worked with a super group of people in Minor Hockey to coordinate the 2011 Female Pee Wee Championships. I coach soccer, help with the track and field club and when not running the business or chauffeuring kids, I sometimes even find time to fold laundry. In short, I’m a doer.

As part of the Physician Recruitment Committee, I became a lead coordinator for the Rural Health Symposium, which brought people from all over B.C. to Clearwater including the Minister of Health to address the issues surrounding the rural healthcare crisis.

For the past three years, I have organized the Clearwater Canoe Regatta and love how this weekend brings all sectors of our community together.

In running for Council, I have the following goals:

1. To ensure that we address the social and business needs of our community;

2. To move the OCP process forward as quickly as possible; this is the blueprint for our community growth; and

3. To put health care recruitment and retention at the top of the page.

Lastly, as Ralf Waldo Emerson said, “Common sense is genius dressed up in work clothes.” Our community was forged, maintained and will likely grow due to the hard working people of the valley.  Your voice is essential to our future as is your wisdom and insight. Please vote Nov. 9 or 19 and ensure electing a team of people that represent your community vision.
