I’ve been a Clearwater resident for nine years, but have worked in Wells Gray since 1989 as a Park Facility Operator. I have a diploma in Broadcasting from BCIT and worked five years in radio in the Cariboo.  I’m an associate editor/writer for a US based car magazine; I’m a certified tree faller and small water systems operator. I also managed restaurants and worked construction when I was in my teens and 20s in metro Vancouver. I’m the current president of Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce, a founding member of Tourism Wells Gray, a member of the Official Community Plan Committee, and a director of the BC Society of Park Operators.

I have experience with a lot of different things, and I think my varied experience would be a great asset to Clearwater moving forward. My years in parks give me a good understanding of multiyear financial and operational planning, project management, as well as the nuts and bolts of operating a community. My communications and marketing experience in radio have served me well in my business and should help with council duties.

I see Clearwater as being on the verge of a very exciting decade of growth and change. Forestry is back on track, tourism continues to grow, and a new mining

industry is on the horizon. The current mayor and council took advantage of a slower economy to lay a very solid foundation for the community moving forward. A lot of their work needs to be finished and I hope to be part of that. What I feel Clearwater and the upper North Thompson will need moving forward is a strong vision and good judgment. Running a medium-sized business and my time on the OCP committee have honed these skills.

The big challenges I see in the next few years will be following the course set out in the Official Community Plan, dealing with growth issues, and expanding community infrastructure in a way that is cost effective and makes long-term sense. I feel strongly that we need to continue growing Clearwater’s sense of community through events like the Canoe Regatta, the Farmers Market, improvements to local parks, and through learning and recreational opportunities in partnership with community groups and schools. I’d like the chance to be part of the next stage of Clearwater future.

Thanks for your consideration. Come out and vote.
