“Finding Solutions for You”

I am Barry Banford and I am seeking your support for the position of councilor for the District of Clearwater.

I have lived and worked in Clearwater since 1998. I was caught in the downsizing of our local Forestry Office in 2010 but my wife Marcia and I decided to stay in Clearwater. I am now semi-retired and have the time which a commitment to council deserves.

I was a trustee with the Clearwater Improvement District and, until recently, served as a director on the Community Resource Center board. I am currently a director on the North Thompson Communities Foundation board and a member of the Leadership Team for Clearwater Community Baptist Church. These experiences have given me an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a board member or councilor and an appreciation of many aspects of our community from youth to seniors.

My 16 years in management with the government has taught me how to accomplish goals working within the government system.  One of my strengths has been the ability to build strong working relationships with elected officials, stakeholders, other government agencies and business partners. I want to continue the work council has done and enhance Clearwater’s relationships for the betterment of our community.

I believe in collaborative decision-making and in considering all aspects of an issue to make sound fiscal business decisions. I am known for taking a calm and considered approach to issues and for asking the tough questions, while valuing all ideas and input. Building a strong team on our new council will be a priority for me.

Establishing walking paths will make Clearwater safer for everyone. I want to make our town the best place in British Columbia to live, work and do business. We need to maintain and enhance our existing businesses while actively creating a diversified economic future and continue to build our community’s infrastructure, which will support new opportunities.

Increasing public participation is important to me. I would like to be your new voice on council and whatever issue is brought to me, whether I agree with it or not, I will take it to the council.

We live in the present but must plan for the future. Council is more than going to meetings - it is serving those who elected you.  I would be honored to serve you on council. Please come out and vote.
