The campfire ban in the Clearwater Fire Zone is to be lifted at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to zone manager Jim Jones.
The Clearwater Fire Zone encompasses what was formerly the Clearwater Forest District, and includes Wells Gray Park. It stretches from north of Little Fort (near the Rivermount Motel) to about 20 minutes south of Valemount.
Clearwater Fire Zone includes the northern portion of Adams Lake, from about 55 km on the forest service road on the west side of the lake. Gordon Bay, a popular camping site on the west side of the lake, is within the fire zone, as are Gannett Lake, Rock Creek (Tsikwustum) and Momich Lake on the east side.
Tree Farm License 18 (the “management”) northwest of Clearwater is within the fire zone as well.
Jones noted that the portion of the fire zone north of Clearwater is now fairly wet.
The portion around Adams Lake is relatively drier, however. Fire Zone staff will be aggressively patrolling to make sure people are using appropriate measures to ensure campfire safety.
The campfire ban remains in place within the Kamloops Fire Zone to the south.
A ban on open fires other than campfires remains in place within the entire Kamloops Fire Center, which includes the Clearwater Fire Zone.
