BREAKING NEWS: Clearwater Chamber to host all-candidates’ forum

Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an all-candidates’ forum, according to one of the organizers.

The forum will be held Monday evening, Oct. 3, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Pit at the Clearwater Secondary School.

First on the agenda will be the candidates running to be director for Thompson-Nicola Regional District Area A (Wells Gray Country). The two contenders are incumbent Carol Schaffer and challenger Usoff Tsao. They each will be asked to provide a 2.5 minute overview of who they are and their vision for TNRD Area A . Ten minutes of questions and answers for them will follow.

Next the District of Clearwater mayoral candidates each will provide a five minute overview of who they are and their vision for our community. This will be followed by a 10 minute question and answer session specific to them. The two candidates are incumbent Merlin Blackwell and challenger Dean Clifford.

This will be followed by the 15 councillor candidates: incumbents Barry Banford, Lynne Frizzle, Bill Haring, Lyle Mackenzie, and Shelley Sim; and challengers Theresa Braaten, Suzanne Emerson, Candus Graffunder, Tom Grimm, Carly Star Lepoidvin, Ken Matheson, Harry Minci, Lorelei Rogers, Ron Rotzetter and Jessica Toscano. Each will present a two minute overview of who they are and their vision for our community. This will be followed by 60 minutes for questions to the councillor and the mayoral candidates. There will be six councillors elected.

Advance voting opportunities for Clearwater will be on Oct. 5, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advance voting for TNRD Area A will be on Oct. 4. See the ads in this week’s issue of the Clearwater Times for times and places.

General voting day for mayor, councillors and regional district director will be on Saturday, Oct. 15, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be no vote for school trustee for the North Thompson (Clearwater-Blue River) as incumbent Shelley Sim was elected by acclamation.
