Have you made your guess yet in the third annual Bike Challenge for Hospice House? Volunteers will be collecting guesses for the last time next Friday at Safety Mart in Clearwater, Jim’s Food Market in Little Fort and AG Foods in Barriere.

For the past month volunteers have gathered guesses from dozens of North Thompson valley residents.

The Bike Challenge itself will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11.  Kickoff will be in front of the funeral homes in Barriere and Clearwater at 1 p.m.

Four bike riders will cycle south from Clearwater at the same time that four will head north from Barriere.

For a $2 donation, residents can try to guess the exact location on Highway 5 where the riders will intersect.

The winner will have his or her name inscribed on the Hospice Cup.

Money raised from the guesses will go towards North Thompson Valley Hospice House Society’s goal - construction of a hospice house facility to serve the entire valley, probably at Little Fort.

After the two cycling parties meet, closing ceremonies and refreshments will be in Little Fort Hall at approximately 2:30 p.m.

A number of dignitaries have been invited to take part in the opening kickoff and/or the closing ceremonies. These include M.P. Cathy McLeod, MLA Terry Lake, Clearwater mayor John Harwood, Barriere mayor Mike Fennell, Lower North Thompson (TNRD Area O) director Bonnie CruzelleMyram, and Wells Gray Country (TNRD Area A) director Tim Pennell. Everyone from the North Thompson Valley will be welcome to the kick off and closing ceremonies.

Refreshments will be available from the Lions’ Club food kitchen.

Community support for this event has been extremely positive since it began three years ago. Corporate sponsorship has also been very strong. This year, the newly formed North Thompson Valley Hospice House Society is organizing the event. President is Steve White (250-677-4284) and vice president is Drake Smith (250-674-3030). Bike Challenge for Hospice House coordinator for 2011 is Linda Verhoeven (250-677-4447).
