BC Wildfire trailer pump vandalized in Cariboo

A BC Wildfire Service pump was tampered with near Williams Lake

Sand was poured into a BC Wildfire trailer pump in the Cariboo, making it inoperable, said RCMP.

RCMP were notified of the incident which took place at the B.C. Wildfire Service compound located near Minton Lake and Lund Road, on Monday, June 10 at 1:45 p.m., said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, RCMP North District media relations in a news release.

The compound is located near Wildwood, north of Williams Lake.

"Evidence suggests the suspect(s) cut the fence to gain access to the property. While no other buildings on the property were broken into, several items were spray painted."

When essential equipment used in fighting wildfires is not readily available it impacts response times and the ability to ensure wildfire suppression efforts, Saunderson noted.

RCMP will be increasing patrols in the area.

Anyone with information on this is asked to call the Williams Lake RCMP at (250) 392-6211.
