(L-r) Cheryl Thomas presents a $50 cheque from her daughter Kim Thomas to Tyson Bruns and Wayne Richardson of Clearwater Community Baptist Church. Her daughter won the money when her photo of the church's youth group pushing a giant Earth-ball was chosen for the cover of Clearwater Festival and Events Society's 2011 community calendar and so she decided to donate it to the group. Thomas holds a copy of the 2012 calendar. Bruns is co-chair of the church's leadership team while Richardson is church pastor.

The valuable work being done by the youth group at Clearwater Community Baptist Church was recognized last week by a $500 contribution from North Thompson Community Foundation, according to Foundation representative Cheryl Thomas.

The money will be used to purchase tires for the youth group's community bus.

"It's more of a community bus than a church bus," said Wayne Richardson, the church's pastor.

Users other than members of the church congregation include Dry Grad, Scouts, Girl Guides, Clearwater Minor Hockey and so on.

Richardson is also the person in charge of the youth ministry, Y2C (Youth to Christ).

Every Friday, from 7 - 9 p.m., an average of 40 teens meet at the church for games and other activities.

Junior Youth (Grades 5 - 7) meet at the church every Tuesday, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

"We're trying to do outreach, not religion," said Richardson. "It's not just church kids who attend."

North Thompson Community Foundation invests money raised through donations and uses the interest gained to fund community projects. Once a year a call for grant applications is made. The dollars are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people within the North Thompson Valley, from Blue River to McLure.
