Wells Gray Country Seniors Society will be hosting a meet and greet and is inviting all the candidates for mayor and council in the upcoming election in Clearwater.

People of all ages, including seniors, will be welcome.  This informal session will take place in the Seniors’ Room at the Dutch Lake Community Centre on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Coffee and tea will be served.

“Although the seniors’ group is hosting this event, we want to make sure everyone knows they are welcome, regardless of age,” said seniors’ society president Eileen Sedgwick. “We’re inviting the candidates to express their platforms on every important issue, not just those dealing with seniors.”

The Seniors’ Society is organizing the event for two reasons.

“We were disappointed to learn that a number of candidates were unable to attend the forum held on Nov. 6,” said society secretary Evelyn Warner, “so we wanted to give them all another opportunity. Also, many seniors don’t drive their cars at night, so we thought it would be great to hold an event in the afternoon.”

The event will be quite informal. All the candidates present will have an opportunity to speak for a few minutes. Then voters and candidates can meet one-on-one or in little groups over coffee to ask questions and discuss matters further.

“There will be no formal question and answer session,” said society past-president Sandra Holmes. “Hopefully, this informal session will give everyone a better understanding of the candidates and their stand on important issues.”
