The North Thompson Community Foundation (NTCF) plays a vital role in supporting organizations and projects across the North Thompson Valley, empowering initiatives that shape the region’s future. From food security to recreational programs, the foundation demonstrates its deep commitment to building a stronger community.

Supporting local initiatives

NTCF grants provide vital support to organizations that might otherwise struggle. For example, a grant allowed the Barriere Food Bank to purchase durable shelving, improving storage and enhancing its ability to serve local families more effectively. NTCF also kept Barriere’s curling rink operational for three years, ensuring it remained a gathering place for graduations, ceremonies and other community events.

In Blue River, NTCF supported a community garden by providing materials for planter boxes and a greenhouse. This initiative not only improves food security but also strengthens community connections. “Every dollar donated stays in the Valley, making a real difference in our community,” says foundation chair Louise Lodge. “Without our support, many organizations couldn’t continue their essential work for residents.”

Opportunities for donors

NTCF offers flexible ways to give, allowing donors to focus on the causes they care about most and support priorities like arts, youth programs, environmental initiatives, Indigenous communities and other vital needs. Further, with as little as $1,000, you can establish a legacy bursary for students or a memorial fund honouring a loved one. These funds become active at $10,000. Other donations to NTCF's additional funds are at your discretion.

NTCF makes giving simple by providing tax receipts and ensuring donations go where they’re needed most. Whether you want to honour a loved one or contribute to a brighter future, the foundation helps you create a lasting impact in your community.

Welcoming volunteers

NTCF is inviting volunteers to join its board of directors, with a focus on reflecting the diversity of the community. People of all ages, genders and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Directors serve two-year terms and are welcome to attend a meeting before making a commitment.

“We’re always looking for a well-rounded group,” Lodge adds. “Younger voices offer fresh perspectives, while seniors and retirees bring invaluable experience.”

To enhance community engagement, NTCF recently launched a revamped website featuring impactful stories and a video celebrating its 20th anniversary. These updates highlight the foundation’s transformative work and the lives it has touched over two decades.

“It’s inspiring to see the difference our donations make right here in our community,” Lodge says.

By focusing on local priorities and providing opportunities for donors and volunteers, NTCF continues to strengthen the heartbeat of the North Thompson Valley.
