On June 12, 11 children and their parents/guardians came to the Vavenby Strong Start.

The day always starts off with free play, which gives the kids some learning time to share and get along together.

Leader Jody Phillips had a Fathers’ Day craft lined up for the day. They each had a small cookie sheet covered in brown paper.

A very large marble covered in paint was placed on the paper and rolled around. There were several paint marbles to choose from and most of the students used them all.

After the craft making it was healthy snack time and then they all went to the gym to play.

On June 13 the elementary students made their Fathers’ Day gifts. Everyone was given heart shaped wooden frames to paint.

Teacher Adam Forsyth took portraits to put in the frames.

The children also created clay objects themed, “anything dad would want.” Forsyth told the students they could make gifts for anyone who had played an important part in their life.

Fathers’ Day cards were made on the next day.

The school held a Fun Day with Blue River on June 15. The weather was not exactly cooperative for the event with light showers off and on but it didn’t seem to be detrimental to the fun the children had.

To begin the day the students were divided into teams to do an obstacle course. First they ran with an egg on a spoon and then smashed the egg when they reached the proper spot.

From there they did the crab walk to the slip and slide with a cup of juice on their stomachs. After going down the slip and slide it was a run to the hay bales and up and over, then through the sand pit army style to go under the netting, and then a roll around in the foam.

When the messy obstacle race was completed there was a water balloon fight to help clean the kids off. The rain showers aided in that respect a bit as well.

The children changed into dry clothes before lunch and ate outside. The Parents Advisory Committee (PAC) purchased and prepared hamburgers, hot dogs, lemonade, watermelon, chips, and baby tomatoes.

There were also cookies, Tim Bits, and freezies.

The two schools got along well together and everyone had a wonderful time.

June’s movie night at the church was on June 15. It was The Case For Christ, a true story about an atheist who goes around the world to prove there is no such thing as Christ.

The new bookmobile arrived at the Vavenby post office in the morning and later in the afternoon at the school, on June 14.

It is a beautiful vehicle and very spacious inside. Many residents came to check it out.

Two companies, one based in Ontario, the other in Vernon, were digging up the ground by the railroad tracks near the crossing for the laying of new cable due to the extension of the line. The crossing is also to be repaired at some time.
