Chase RCMP officers are investigating “an unexpected death” of a 60-year-old woman near Adams Lake on Tuesday, April 27.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 8600 block of Holding Road, just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, where they found the deceased woman. An adult male was taken into police custody without incident, said Staff-Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner, unit commander of the Southeast District major crime unit.

“Although a full determination surrounding criminality has not yet been made, the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are being considered suspicious in nature at this time,” he said.

RCMP said the man and woman were well known to each other. The man was released Thursday afternoon unconditionally and without charge and the investigation is continuing.

Major crime investigators continue to consider the circumstances under which the 60-year-old woman reportedly died as suspicious in nature, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said Thursday afternoon. “Police will continue to treat her death as such until proven otherwise,” O’Donaghey said.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service will also be working diligently to officially classify the woman’s death as they advance their concurrent investigations.

Police do not believe there is any risk to the general public.
