Police are seeking information from the public on the movement of a white van in connection to an investigation into a suspicious death.

On March 17 at about 10 p.m., police were called to the 1600-block of Monterey Place in Dufferin for a “suspicious occurrence report.”

Upon arrival, officers found a deceased person inside a vehicle. Police have not said if the body is that of a man or woman.

There were three vehicles outside the house when KTW visited the area on March 18, including a white GMC van with Budget decals proclaiming, “We buy boxes.”

It is that van that is the focus of the police probe.

“We are asking the public for assistance in helping us establish the vehicle’s movements during this past week,” Staff Sgt. Todd Wiebe said in a release. “Please have a look at the van and its licence plate. If you think you saw it or if you have dash-cam or surveillance footage capturing it, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Police are looking for information on the van’s travel in Kamloops and surrounding rural areas and communities, including Barriere, Clearwater, Valemount, Savana, Cache Creek and other spots along those corridors.

The white rental van is a 2020 GMC model wth B.C. licence plate PJ 9131.

Police are waiting on the results of an autopsy to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.

Neighbours who spoke to KTW said they did not see anything strange, nor did they hear a commotion or anything out of the ordinary on the night of March 17.

The residents told KTW an elderly couple, possibly in their 80s, and their grandson, in his late 20s, live in the Monterey Pace house.

Neighbours said the white van and had been parked on the property for a few days and they hadn’t seen it there before, with one saying it didn’t belong to the people who lived in the home.

Residents — some of whom said they had lived in the area for decades — described the neighbourhood as a quiet one, with little property crime over the years or signs of drug dealing. They said there wasn’t a lot of activity at the house in question and noted the grandson would often go for walks with his grandparents.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-8565.
