Repairs to the bridge on Highway 5 that crosses the Barriere River started on Tuesday, Nov. 16, and is scheduled to continue through Thursday of this week between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The repairs are being conducted by the Ministry of Transport due to damage sustained over time by vehicles ‘clipping’ the bridge, plus other required maintenance.
Traffic is being detoured off Highway 5 and onto Barriere Town Road from both the south and north ends of the community. Pilot trucks take the highway traffic through and there are flaggers stationed at all of the intersections, key areas, and at the high school when the students get out at 3 p.m.
As of Tuesday afternoon the process was running smoothly with minimum disruption to travelers, although area residents trying to navigate within the community did experience some challenges.
