Clearwater and Blackpool fire departments attended to a mutual aid bushfire off Highway 5.

Twenty-two members, 11 from each department, along with members of the Clearwater RCMP detachment, responded to the call just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, with four trucks from Clearwater and three from Blackpool.

Humidity and wind caused a lit brush pile to spread to surrounding brush grass, also causing a large amount of smoke to hinder vision on the highway, to which the RCMP offered traffic support. The burn was roughly one hectare in size, with a rank one and two rating (smouldering ground fire or low vigour surface fire), along with some minor rank three fires (moderately vigorous surface fire).

After four hours, the fires were contained, and after packing up thousands of feet of hose, both halls were back in service.
