The Clearwater Fire Department requested that the RCMP attend 750 Woreby Road, Clearwater B.C., as a female had locked herself in the compound there. The call came in at 2:50 a.m. and fire was already on scene.
Cst. Klassen was dispatched to attend. Upon arrival he determined that the female, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was a 42-year-old Burnaby, B.C., woman who said she parked in the school district compound around 6:00 p.m. to sleep as she felt safe there, but when she woke up, the gate was locked.
School district staff were called to the scene and unlocked the gate. Nothing appeared to be damaged within the compound. The woman had cannabis in the car but appeared to be sober. She advised that she was en route from Edmonton, Alta., to Burnaby to see friends.

A 29-year-old Vancouver man called the police to report he had received a call from his cousin, a 34-year-old Maskwacis, Alta., female who was driving her 2019 Grey Chev Malibu, with another cousin, northbound on Highway 5 through Clearwater. The man said they were being followed by a dark grey work truck with a light bar on the rear and Alberta plate starting with a “U.”
They had been followed by the truck since Kamloops, B.C., and thought this was suspicious. The female cousin was on her way back to Alberta. She pulled over to let the suspicious vehicle pass, but the vehicle pulled over behind them instead of passing them.
The female cousin was called by police dispatch and advised she was now past Vavenby, B.C. Connection was lost with her cell phone, however, a short time later the connection to her phone was picked up in Avola, B.C. At this time it was determined that she had not seen the suspicious vehicle following them anymore.
Dispatch was advised to call out a Valemount, B.C., member and the cousin was advised this would be occurring further up the highway. Update to the call was that a Valemount member met with her and her cousin and all was good.
There was no further indication they were being followed. They decided to stay the night in a motel in Valemount. The work truck with Alberta plate beginning with a “U” could have been a rental vehicle from Alberta.
