The emergency department at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital (DHH) is staffed over the weekend, however, the public is encouraged to consider the most appropriate location for their care needs.
“Using the right resource helps staff in the emergency department focus on treating urgent, life-threatening situations,” noted a spokesperson for Interior Health. “The emergency department assesses and prioritizes patients with critical emergencies. Patients with less urgent care needs may experience longer wait times.”
On the Physicians of Clearwater, B.C. Facebook page there is a post from Wednesday, March 19, 2025 that explains a bit more about the coverage.
Please be advised: we have very restricted physician staffing in the hospital over the next five days. We have managed to arrange full physician coverage but ask that people be very thoughtful about what is an emergency and what is a convenience before coming to ER. Expect wait times to be longer than usual. Please utilize 811 and Telehealth options for non-emergency complaints.
Interior Health notes anyone experiencing an emergency and requiring immediate care, is encouraged to visit the closest emergency department or call 911.
