Borrow Enterprises Ltd. has been awarded a three-year road maintenance contract with the District of Clearwater.
In the first year, the contract will be worth $799,049 with a consumer price index increase for each of the following years.
During the Tuesday, Nov. 5, district meeting, council received a report from Chad Carmichael, director of operations and infrastructure, recommending council award the contract to Borrow.
Black River Contracting had also submitted a bid, which was lower and in the amount of $582,000.
The two bids were scored using the system outline in the Request for Proposals document and Borrow Enterprises was the highest scoring bid despite not being the lowest price, noted the report.
“The selection of Borrow Enterprises followed a competitive bidding process, ensuring that our roads will be managed by a contractor with the skills and experience necessary to handle Clearwater’s unique road maintenance needs,” said the district in a news release Nov. 8 in announcing the contract being awarded. “This new agreement will prioritize safety, efficiency, and clear communication.”
As winter approaches, residents who have any concerns about road conditions or maintenance activities are being asked by the district to reach out to Borrow Enterprises’ service line at 250-674-8776.
The district website has an info-graph outlining the areas Borrow will be responsible for. They include the district’s municipal roads, Dunn Lake Road to the district boundary or four kilometres from the rail crossing, the remainder of Candle Creek Road as Argo Road Maintenance will cover Candle Creek Road between Birch Drive and 250 metres north of Barber Road.
Argo Maintenance is also responsible for Yellowhead Highway 5 and Clearwater Valley Road.
Borrow notes on its website it has operated in the North Thompson Valley since 1999.
