Last Wednesday a man got into a stand off with a bear at a tree planter’s camp outside Clearwater, in which the bear knocked him to the ground outside his tent, leaving him with superficial wounds.

Warren Chayer, officer with the Conservation Officer Service of British Columbia, said there were a couple of bears in the area showing habitual behavior and that there were traps on site and he also wants to remind the public that the animals are out in full force this time of year.

He added the last few weeks have been busy for the service regarding bears and people should be careful to look after their garbage as it attracts the animals and can lead to more habitual behavior, causing them to lose fear of humans, which is a bad case for both the bears and humans.
