Barriere RCMP mark weekend blaze as suspicious

There is evidence to show the commerical structure fire in Louis Creek may have been arson.

Barriere RCMP said they are investigating the commercial structure fire that happened over the weekend as arson.

The Spray All building at the corner of Sawmill Court and Agate Bay Road was ablaze early Saturday morning, causing explosions and a nasty plume of smoke.

Firefigthers from Barriere and Chu Chua were on scene before 5 a.m. and didn’t leave until the fire was out at 9 a.m. that same morning.

Barriere RCMP received a request to assist Barriere Fire Rescue at 4:37 a.m. on Sept. 26.

“Investigators now have reason to believe the blaze may have been an arson, due to findings at the scene,” stated Cpl. Robert Welsman, detachment commander of the Barriere RCMP. “No injuries were sustained as a result of the blaze, which resulted in a significant loss to both the commerical building and pieces of heavy machinery on site.”

Both a crane and a dozer were seen on site before and after the fire. The cause of the explosions have not been publicly identified.

A forensic specialist with RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services attended and examined the scene for physical evidence, accoridng to a release from the Barriere detachment. The examination may aid investigators in identifying a suspect, or suspects.

Barriere RCMP request that anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or observed any suspicious activity in the area before or after the blaze, and have not yet spoken to police, call the detachment at 250-672-9918.
