Arrest in Barriere turns up loaded semi-automatic rifle

Report of a suspicious vehicle spotted in Kamloops on Friday, Feb. 26, ended in an arrest that same night in Barriere.

Kamloops RCMP attended a report of a suspicious vehicle on Kootenay Way around 6 p.m. They located the car travelling on Highway 5, but attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful.

Later that evening an officer with Central Interior Traffic spotted the vehicle at a Barriere gas station, and with the help of a Barriere RCMP officer the driver of the vehicle was arrested.

A loaded semi-automatic rifle and a number of other items were seized at the scene.

Cameron Jakob Deakin-Robertson, 22 of Kamloops, faces five charges related to possessing a firearm, occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present, possessing stolen property, and driving while prohibited.

Deakin-Robertson was remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for Mar. 15.
