Scouts from 1st Wells Gray Scouts braved -15C weather during a recent winter camp at Graffunder Lakes, which are located about 10 km east of Vavenby.
The youngsters left home Friday, Jan. 7, and returned on Sunday, Jan. 9.
Chad Bond (Patrol Leader), Zach Stokes, Adam Becker, Callum McLeod, Lorina McLeod, Bailey Stokes and Allen Selbee along with Lorne and Jennifer Selbee (Scout Leaders) and Evan Bucknell were all braving the -15C temperatures and probably colder with the wind chill.
“We hiked in three feet of snow down to the lake to do some ice fishing, ran a race across the lake and built ourselves some quinzees to sleep in on the second night,” reported Jennifer Selbee.
This is the second winter camp the Scouts have done. In November they went to Silence Lake on an overnight “survival” camp with the Scouts having to build themselves a shelter. Silence Lake is located about 50 km northeast of Clearwater in Raft River Valley.
This spring the Scouts plan a three-day canoe trip on Clearwater Lake.
