An all day tour for two to Rainbow Falls on Azure Lake donated by Clearwater Lake Tours was part of the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce raffle that I won last fall.
On Aug. 5 with the Merganser carrying canoes, provisions and passengers and skippered by Nick, we set off on our adventure. The scenery on Clearwater Lake was impressive and it is easy to see why so many canoeists choose to paddle this lake. Navigating the channel between Clearwater Lake and Azure Lake was pretty exciting as the boat roared against the strong current caused by the massive amount of water pouring out of Azure Lake and into Clearwater Lake.
When we entered Azure Lake the scenery was breathtaking. Garnet Falls, Rooster Tail Falls, Twin Falls, Rainbow Falls and more all attest to the steepness of the surrounding mountains which sport snow fields and glaciers.
On shore the blueberries were in abundance. Nick guided us up the mossy forest path to Rainbow Falls. A substantial and delicious lunch was eaten. Beach walks provided opportunity to take pictures and enjoy the feel of the chilly water on our feet. One family paddled out and caught a plump rainbow trout. We were amazed to see a bat land in the water and pull itself up onto the dock.
Nick was an informative guide and a very professional skipper. Clearwater Tours provided my friend and me with a memorable day and I thank them sincerely for their generous gift and I highly recommend this tour for all.
