“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!” Psalm 139:17-18 NLT

I love reading the Psalms.  The writers of the Psalms shared their thoughts and expressions sometimes in very blunt and straightforward ways.  So when we read the Psalms we can relate to how they felt.

Here in Psalm 139 the psalmist reflects on God as his creator. He thinks about the thought that God is not just “up there” somewhere, maybe ... hopefully, but that God is there with him, all the time. That God cares, that He is interested to be an intricate part of his life.

Every one of us wants to be loved, needs to be loved. The popularity of Valentine’s Day, which we just passed, shows this thought clearly. We don’t like to be alone.  We need love. The Beatles even made this thought clear in a popular song, “All we need is love.”

Times come into our lives, too often it seems, where we face crisis, or difficulties, or sicknesses, or other things, which make us feel like we have been left alone. Where we may feel like God does not love us any more. Many have even mentioned to me that they feel like God has abandoned them. Yet as we read in the above verse, “you are still with me.” Another verse in the Bible says it this way: “God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

God loves us with a love that none of us can understand, but when we embrace it, we discover that the love of God is so incredible, so wonderful, that it feels our lives and we wonder why we didn’t embrace it sooner!

The One who made you, who created you, who thinks of you, who is there every morning when you wake up, says to you, I will never fail you, will never leave you, I will never abandon you.  He says to you I love you with an everlasting love.

Who also says “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

He invites you and says: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Do you hear Him calling you?  Will you come?  I mean what do you have to lose, other than feeling alone, unloved, afraid, burdened down, etc.
